Our People

"Kahore tetahi o tatou, e taea te mahi, e nga mahi e taea, e tatou katoa."

"Not one of us, can work as well, as all of us working together."

Patron

Dame Silvia Cartwright PCNZM, DBE, QSO

We continue to be greatly honoured by the kind patronage of Dame Silvia Cartwright, who has been the Patron of Shine since 1998. In 1989 she became the first female Chief District Court Judge, and in 1993 she was the first woman to be appointed to the High Court. In 2001, she was appointed Governor General. She has always been a strong supporter of rights for victims of domestic violence and used her role as Governor General to further this important cause.

In Memory of Paul Hargreaves

Paul was on Shine’s Board from 2003 until he passed away in August 2014. Throughout that time, he was a wise, loyal, and dear friend of Shine. We were so fortunate to have a Board member of the calibre of Paul, who was honoured in 2006 as an Officer of the Order of Merit for services to business and the community. Paul co-founded IT services company Datacom in 1965, which now employs more than 2000 people. His experience also included serving as President of the Institute of Directors, Director of Radio New Zealand (1991 – 1996), Chief Executive of National Institute of Water and Atmospheric Research (1994 – 2002), and Chairman and Director of Antarctica New Zealand (2001 - 2008). He also had involvement with the Gallagher Group and the New Zealand Business Council for Sustainable Development. His community work also included the Laura Ferguson Trust and the Antarctic Heritage Trust. Beyond being a wise and experienced leader, he was a lovely, kind and generous man. Kei kona te aroha me te whakaaro, me kore rawa atu e wareware. With loving thoughts, deepest sympathy and fondest memories.

“If I had taken up the course sooner, I would not have ended up in my current situation. This programme has changed my perspective towards domestic violence.” No Excuses participant
